Shook, Alfred Montgomery and Pascal Green Shook
Papers, 1886-1914

This collection contains the business and personal papers of Alfred Montgomery Shook, which cover the years 1886 to1901 and the papers of Shook's son, Pascal Green Shook. Both were employed by the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company. The papers indicate only that Pascal worked as an assistant mine supervisor. Alfred served as General Manager of TCI, 1886-1893, and as the corporation's Vice-President from 1893-1901. The papers include information on the price of iron ore and its sale, on the financial maneuvering and large investments of TCI which resulted in the corporation's vast expansion in the later years of the nineteenth century.

In addition to records of the Sloss-Sheffield company, this collection includes records of numerous allied companies including Sloss Furnace Company, The Alabama Company, Alabama Coal and Coke Company, Horse Creek Coal and Coke Company and others. The collection includes minutes of meetings, annual reports, financial statements, field operation records and other material. The records do not include detailed records relating to individual workers at the company.
